HELENA SYNAGOGUE TOUR

From Wendy Weissman:

The Helena Jewish community is trying to purchase back the old synagogue that is now office spaces. They want to buy it and renovate it.

They are just in the beginning stages of this process, and have formed a non profit called the Phoenix Project, of which I am the treasurer. Right now they are giving tours of the old synagogue and getting ideas of what types of renovations it could use and how to best use the space. And of course, they are starting some fundraising.

I thought we could all caravan down to Helena and tour the synagogue. The Helena Jewish community has offered to host us for a short meet and greet outside the synagogue.

I am throwing out a date that works for the Helena community – how does Sunday September 19th at 2 PM sound for a tour? We can carpool or caravan down to Helena for the day. We could do our tour at 2 and then the Helena community would meet us at 3. We can either do dinner in Helena or just head back to Great Falls.

Thoughts??? I tentatively booked us a tour for that date when I was doing some treasury work with the President today…. If that date doesn’t work, throw out some other dates and I will coordinate with the Helena community to see if it will work, but this date seemed to work for them. I want to do this sooner rather than later so I don’t have to drive in the snow…

AITZ CHAIM COMMUNITY ROSH HASHANAH AND YOM KIPPUR SERVICES SCHEDULE

Because of the covid pandemic, Aitz Chaim will not be holding indoor services for High Holy days this year. Our only in person gathering will be for Tashlich at Giant Springs, 5401 18th Ave. N., at 1:30pm Saturday, September 19. We will also have a zoom Yizkor service on Yom Kippur led by Rabbi Ruz at 5pm Monday, September 28. We are still trying to see if we can offer some online learning with Rabbi Ruz and will send an update if that is scheduled.

We encourage our members to take advantage of the online services at Congregation Beth Shalom in Bozeman. They will be streaming High Holy Day services this year from the Ellen Theater. Sign up here or e-mail me at president@aitzchaim.com.
Links for Yom Kippur services will be sent a few days in advance for those services.

Services in Bozeman will be led by Rabbi Mark Kula, accompanied by a cantorial soloist and a pianist.
There will be a way to chat and comment. They use the same machzor we do: Mishkan Hanefesh: Machzor For The Days of Awe. They will have that visible on the screen so you can follow along. (If you want to use an actual book, contact Helen Cherry by phone at (406) 727-2572 or (406) 868-4385 to make arrangements to pick them up. We have a few available to check out).

The president of the Bozeman community wanted to emphasize that there is no charge for these online services. However, their community will incur additional expenses to provide them so donations will be welcome. You can donate here or by mailing a check to Congregation Beth Shalom, 2010 W.Koch St, Bozeman, MT, 59718.

Here is the schedule including both Bozeman and Great Falls offerings:

  • Monday September 28 at 5pm. Zoom link to be published when available.
  • We encourage our community to join our zoom Yizkor as we will be reciting our community’s list. Bozeman will be having their own zoom meeting for their community’s Yizkor also at 5pm. They will be back to the online service at 5:45 for Ne’ilah – probably a little more formal than ours, if you prefer that option.
