READY FOR ANOTHER “JEW CREW” HIKE THIS SATURDAY?
After our last service, we calendared a few Jewish community hikes for this summer. Our first one will be this Saturday 6/25. We will be hiking the Sluice Boxes from the upper entrance to river crossing #5, and spending Shabbat in nature. Anyone interested in joining us should meet at the Eastside Walmart near the gas station at 8AM, or the Sluice Boxes upper parking lot by 9AM. Bring water, lunch, hiking poles, and anything else you may need for a day hike. We will arrange carpools and rides that morning at Walmart. You don’t need to RSVP but we will be taking off with whoever shows up by 8 AM.
Hope to see you on Saturday!

WE BURN LIKE THIS — MONTANA TOUR JUNE 9-16, 2022
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WE BURN LIKE THIS MONTANA TOUR
Sponsored by Montana Film Office and Humanities Montana
Filmed in Billings, Butte, and Missoula, Montana in 2019, and following its world
premiere at the 2021 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, international premiere at
Deauville American Film Festival, and year-long film festival tour, WE BURN LIKE THIS
comes home to Montana audiences June 9-16th.
WE BURN LIKE THIS Montana Tour kicks off on June 9th in Billings at the historic
Babcock Theatre, with stops in Livingston, Bozeman, Anaconda, Kalispell, Helena, and
the Roxy Theater in Missoula. Writer/Director/Producer Alana Waksman will be in
attendance for Q&As following the screenings with cast and crew joining her for select
showings.
WE BURN LIKE THIS is a coming-of-age story of Rae (Madeleine Coghlan), a young
Jewish woman living in Billings, Montana and is written, directed, and produced by
Alana Waksman in her feature debut. The film stars Madeleine Coghlan (THE ROOKIE)
and Gotham Award and Indie Spirit Award winner Devery Jacobs (RESERVATION
DOGS). Also featured are Montana-based actors Kendra Mylnechuk, Casidee Riley,
Angelo Rizzo, and Megan Folsom. The film is produced and edited by Billings native
Marshall Granger, produced by Montana native Jeri Rafter, and executive produced by
Peabody and Emmy award winning producer Neda Armian (RACHEL GETTING
MARRIED, THE BALLAD OF LEFTY BROWN) and Eleanor Nett.
When 22 year-old Rae, a descendant of Holocaust survivors, is targeted by Neo-Nazis
in Billings, Montana, her ancestors’ trauma becomes real. Inspired by true events, this
coming-of-age story shows the inherited effects of historical trauma and the strength of
survival and healing.
Waksman’s own family history, as well as the spread of antisemitism in Montana, is
what inspired her to write this story.
WE BURN LIKE THIS is a recipient of the Big Sky Film Grant, Montana Arts Council
Strategic Investment Grant, State Trade Expansion Program Grant from Montana
Department of Commerce, Visit Billings Association Grant, and is now sponsored by
Montana Film Office and Humanities Montana for its Montana Tour. WE BURN LIKE
THIS received the Audience Choice Award at the 2021 Montana International Film
Festival among other noteworthy awards this past year.

REFLECTING ON TIME, KAVOD V’NICHUM: END OF LIFE CONVERSATIONS AND THE JOURNEY OF GRIEF FOR LIMMUD NORTH AMERICA’S 49 STEPS PROJECT
EDITOR’S NOTE: Since we’re counting the Omer anyway, this seems to me to be a good time to take this deep dive into a subject we rarely talk about and seldom face until we or a loved one are living through it. I think this is worth the trip. Please take the time to click on and read each article, even if you do one once a day for each of the 49 days. Since I am late in finding and posting this, you’ll have to do some fast catching up. But I think it will be worth it.
Kavod v’Nichum Logo
This week, we’re thinking about the passage of time and reflecting on two moments in particular.
We’re remembering one million people in our communities whose lives were claimed by Covid-19 as we solemnly cross a tragic milestone this week in the United States. We hold them close and pray that their memories bring comfort and blessing.
This week also marked the halfway point of counting the Omer, the 49 days between the holidays of Passover and Shavuot. Kavod v’Nichum’s wrote on end-of-life conversations, the passage of time, and the journey of grief for Limmud North America’s 49 steps project.
Marking the days helps us to feel time in ways that we don’t normally stop to reflect on. Whether we are counting days toward joy or we are pausing to feel the weight of two and a half years, we allow ourselves to make sacred moments together.
Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom.
